Description T-8606
A method has been developed which allows continuous measurement of the moisture content of maize grains. It consists of support frame, pulley, string, sample container, top pan weighing balance. The weight of sample container was transferred with the help of inelastic string passing over the pulleys. To support these pulleys, a frame of proper height was required. The height of stand was 174 cm from ground surface. The length and width of stand were kept 77 cm and 62 cm respectively. Pulleys were mounted on shaft which was attached to the angle iron piece. So that the pulley moves on the shaft smoothly. A very thin string of nylon was used for transfer of weight. One end of the string was connected to sample container and other to a pan for counter weight which was kept on a weighing balance. All sets of experiments were conducted at different combinations of four Inlet air temperature levels (40, 50, 60, and 700C) and three air flow rates levels (20, 30, 40 m/min). This system was calibrated for actual and measured weight at different air flow rates. The weight transfer from sample container to pan due to air flow uplift was neutralized by tarring the weighing balance after attaining constant air flow rate.
