Description |
Sub clinical mastitis (SCM) recognized as one of the major disease problems concerning the dairy industry. Somatic Cell Count (SCC) is an indicator and standard test to detect sub clinical mastitis in individual cows. The present study was carried out on 105 milch Tharparkar cows at University Livestock research centre, Chandan located in the Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan to study the Somatic Cell Count, its effect on milk quality i.e. milk constituents, pH & electric conductivity, effect of different factors i.e. parity, stage of lactation and season of calving on SCC, milk yield and milk composition and influence of udder and teat morphometry on SCC in Tharparkar cows maintained under hot arid region of Rajasthan. The overall arithmetic mean of test day SCC (absolute and logarithmic) in milk of Tharparkar cows was estimated as 2,20,472 ± 37,189.50 cells/ml of milk and 5.343 ± 0.037 respectively. The animal wise and quarter wise incidence of SCM was 52.38 per cent and 40.80 per cent, respectively. The SCC was significantly higher in later parities while stage of lactation had non significant effect on log10SCC. Significant lower SCC was observed in cows calved during the summer and winter season. Parity had significant (P
