The present study was conducted to assess the impact of the developed nutrition education package on lifestyle modification of hypertensive subjects. One hundred and twenty (120) hypertensive patients were selected from Punjab Agricultural University Hospital, Ludhiana of age 45 to 60 years, both sexes (male and female), diagnosed with hypertension. The subjects were alternatively divided into two equal groups; Experimental (E) group, comprising of sixty patients (thirty males and thirty females), which received the lifestyle modification intervention for the control of blood pressure. The second was Control group (C), comprising of sixty patients (thirty males and thirty females), which was exposed to routine outpatient care only. Present study concluded that age was one of the important risk factors contributing towards hypertension. Further it was concluded that majority of the subjects i.e. 85% of males and 93.3% of females were from Urban Areas. Sedentary lifestyle and stress at home place were found to be contributing factors towards hypertension among university non teaching staff. It was also observed that only 95% of males and 96.7% of female subjects had never consulted any dietician before and a higher BMI ranging from 26-27.9 kg/m2 indicated high prevalence of obesity among the subjects under study. Percent adequacy of fats and oils was found to be very high i.e. 152.4 and 194.5% among males and females respectively, which could be due to daily higher consumption of trans-fats in bakery products.
