Widespread soil erosion, nutrient mining, depleting water table, and eroding biodiversity are the
global concerns which are threatening the food security and livelihood opportunities of farmers,
especially the poor and the underprivileged. Conservation Agriculture (CA) holds immense
potential for a sustainable and productive agriculture. The present study aimed at assessing the
level of knowledge, attitude and adoption behaviour of the farmers about various conservation
agriculture practices viz. zero tillage, water harvesting, mulching, crop rotation, laser guided
land levelling, summer ploughing, organic farming, bed planting, micro-irrigation etc .The study
was conducted in Pratapgarh and Meerut districts of Uttar Pradesh and Alwar district of
Rajsthan with randomly selected samples of 90 adopters and 90 non-adopters of CA practices .
The knowledge and attitude of adopters and non-adopters were found to be significantly different
(P< 0.01). About 30 per cent of adopters had knowledge level in the categories of high to a very
high level, while in case of non-adopters the percentage was nil. About 37 per cent farmers
belonged to the category of low and very low level of adoption, while 24.44 per cent and 10 per
cent of adopters belonged to high and very high level of adoption respectively.
