Description The present investigation was undertaken to evaluate the effects of combination of Aloe vera and Cajanus indicus as alternative to antibiotic growth promoter in broiler chicks. The experiment was carried out in the Laboratory Animal House, Department of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology, College of Veterinary Science and A.H., Anjora, Durg, Chhattisgarh. Total 150 broiler chicks (Ven Cobb 400) were used in this experiment. They were randomly assigned to into five treatment groups with three replicates each. This experiment was carried out for 42 days in between July 2012 and August 2012. The treatment groups were: group T1 (Control) consists of basal diet without any feed additive, group T2 (Standard) comprises of basal diet with BMD (Bacitracin Methylene Disalicylate) as an antibiotic @ 0.05% in feed, group T3 consists of Aloe vera leaf juice (ALJ) @ 20g/L in drinking water, group T4 was having Cajanus indicus leaf powder (CLP) @ 2% in basal feed and group T5 was having combination of both ALJ @ 20g/L in drinking water and CLP @ 2% in basal feed, daily for 42 days. Limit test was performed as per OECD guidelines for testing of chemicals (OECD, 1998) to evaluate the acute oral toxicity of ALJ and CLP. Growth parameters, haematological parameters, biochemical parameters and dressing percentage were studied under this investigation. Results of the acute toxicity test revealed that the oral LD50 values of ALJ and CLP are above 2000 mg/kg and the compounds are practically non-toxic. The growth performance study showed a significantly (P
