Description The study was conducted in Hisar city, of Hisar district in Haryana state. From Hisar city, a
sample of 120 working women of Class I, II, III and IV from hospitals, banks, financial and
educational institutions in private and public sector i.e. 15 from each class and 60 from each sector
were selected randomly. Mostly respondents were found to be satisfied (40.83%) with the workplace
environment in terms of supportive work culture (72.50%), organization’s employees’ policy (59.17%)
and discuss work problem with seniors (45.00%). Besides all these factors job stress was found to be
medium, causes being the high level of job security (48.33%) and job satisfaction (42.50%), and
medium level of job performance (50.00%), job expectation (46.67%), workplace environment
(46.67%) and job role (55.00%). Further, stress at home was found to be high due to the demands being
placed by the household functions predominantly performed by the females i.e., pre-cooking (37.50%),
cooking (34.17%), cleaning house (42.83%), shopping (26.67%) and caring sick family members
(36.67%). Physical health problem like obesity (69.47%), psychological being swing mood (65.00%)
and socio-emotional like lack of attachment (62.11%) were reported to be persisting among
respondents’ children, also they themselves were encountering issues like insufficient income for good
living (WMS-2.33), neglect of children/family member (WMS-2.07) and children/family member
disliking their home absence (WMS-1.94)in severe intensity and problem of lacking time for personal
care, household work and responsibilities to the maximum. High level of stress due to decision making
(76.67%) and home role expectation (63.33%) and medium due to home role (45.83%) and family
members’ attitude (70.83%) also contributed to homestress at higher end of the continuum. Perceived
impact of stress on physical health was stated as severe vision disability (28.33%) and on psychological
aspect enlisted problems were rated as moderate andlow. Respondents majorly were having average
strategic planning (56.67%) and avoidance coping (52.50%) and skills in other aspects of management
practices like pro-active, preventive, reflective, and instrumental were rated as good. Stress due to dual
role was found to be positively correlated with all independent variables as number of children,
working place, service length, social participation, material possession, family income, , mass-media
exposure, type and nature of job.
