Description The study was conducted in Kaithal and Yamuna Nagar districts of Haryana state during the
year 2013-14. These districts were randomly selected. A total number of 120 respondents practiced
Agro-forestry constituted the sample of the study. The information about respondents’ socio-personnel
traits, attitude of respondents towards Agro-forestry, problems and prospects regarding Agro-forestry
adoption were collected with the help of structured interview schedule. The study indicated that there
were 54.2% of respondents who had high attitude towards Agro-forestry. Respondents have their own
criteria for testing which species are suitable for improving soil fertility, availability of fodder, and fuel
wood requirements. Pertaining to the prospects of Agro-forestry there were 64.2% of respondents who
believed to have medium prospects such as technical prospects, economical prospect, social prospects,
ecological prospects and entrepreneurial prospects regarding Agro-forestry. The study conducted on
problems encountered by the respondents in adoption of Agro-forestry revealed that there were 56.7%
of respondents who believed to had medium problems regarding Agro-forestry adoption such as
financial, technical, production, input management and other problems. For the best results from this
practice or to maintain the sustainability measures are required to overcome lack of planting materials
(seeds, seedlings or cuttings) and respondents should select well suitable or compatible trees. The study
further indicated that a significant majority of the respondents had not adopted the recommended Agroforestry
practices. Therefore, it would be worthwhile for the government functionaries to organize
training, demonstration and take up appropriate educational programs so that the respondents can get
required information and skills to adopt the new methods and practices time to time.
