it (rg= 0.706and rp= 0.621) both at genotypic and phenotypic level. All the 60 genotypes including cultivated S. melongena and nine wild species were subjected to Mahalanobis D2 statistics analysis based on morphological and biochemical diversity. All the genotypes were distributed in 7 and 8 cluster for in morphological and biochemical traits respectively. The highest inter cluster distance was 135 observed between cluster II and IV (7.062), and III and VI (8.036) for morphological and biochemical traits respectively. This exhibited no association between geographical distance and genetic divergence. Molecular diversity was also studied by using 20 SSR markers of which 15 SSR markers showed polymorphism. The marker emf21N03 was the most informative with 0.57 PIC in characterizing the genotypes. The UPGMA dendrogram obtained by 15 SSR markers classified 60 genotypes in three clusters. The present investigation will be helpful in utilizing identified genotypes with broad genetic base for future breeding programs of brinjal for improving yield and quality attributes. |
