Description |
The present investigation on “Biological management of Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. punicae (Hingorani and Singh) Vauterin et al. causing bacterial blight of pomegranate (Punica granatum L.)” was conducted at the Department of Plant Pathology, College of Horticulture, Bagalkot during 2013-2015. The causal organism X. a. pv. punicae was isolated from infected leaf, twig and fruit showing typical symptoms of bacterial blight. The pathogenic nature of the organism was proved by Koch’s postulates using detached leaf inoculation technique. Out of 170 bacterial antagonists isolated from rhizosphere soil of pomegranate fields collected from different districts of Karnataka and Maharashtra tested, 57 isolates inhibited the growth of X. a. pv. punicae colonies under in vitro condition by dual culture technique.Maximum inhibition (> 90%) was recorded by eight bacterial antagonists (SM-1A,VK-6B, BK-6, KK-9A, VK-10C, KK-3A, BK-5 and BK-3), followed by 76-90% inhibition by eight, 51-75% by eleven, 26-50% by sixteen and |
