Description |
Primary neoplasms of the gall bladder and common bile duct are uncommon in most of the animal species. Adenomas and adenocarcinomas appear to be the only such tumors reported in domestic animals. Secondary tumours in the liver occasionally involve the gall bladder by extension. Adenomas of the gall bladder are benign, localized tumours that originate from the epithelium. The tumour arise from tall columnar cells and assumes acinar or papillary patterns of gastric mucosa and the resulting mass projects into the lumen but does not in ltrate the deeper parts of the wall (Carlyle Jones et al., 1995). Reports of adenomas that occur mainly in gall bladder of cattle are rare. Biliary adenomas are reported in cats (Traut et al., 1995, Alder and Wilson, 1995) and in equines (Salvaggio et al., 2003). Bile duct adenomas are seen mainly in old dogs, cats, swine, rats, birds, mice and goats (Puette and Hafner, 1995). The present paper reports the diagnosis, surgical management and its histopathological changes. |
