Description |
The present research work entitled "Construction of Multitrait sire indices in RIR pure Iine chicken" was carried oul at Department of Animal Genetics and Breeding, Post Graduate lnstitute of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Akola. The informations on 1615 birds of 64 sires of RIR pure line breeds extending over a period of 2 years (2001 and 2002) for economic trails were taken from Central Poultry Breeding Farm, Goregaon, Mumbai. week of age, egg Number at 40 week of age were 159.99 + 0.30 days, 136g.46 + 4.36 gms. 1583.15 1 5.46 gms, 46.1'1 + 0.10 gms. 42.30 + 0.1Ogms, and 85.42 + 0.52 numbers respectively. The heritability estimates of age at sexual maturity, Body weight at 20 week of age, Body weight at 40 week of age, egg weight at 40 week of age, egg weight at 32 week of age and egg number at 40 week of age were 0.37 + 0.08, 0.45 + 0.09, 0.39 r 0.09, 0.61 + 0.11, O.tO + 0.12 and 0.36 + 0.08 respectivety. Ivlultitrait selection indices were constructed on lhe basis of economic traits using genolypic and phenotypic variances and covariances matrices technique for estimation of'b'values under equal economic weightage of one (1) for all the traits and index values (l = lbixi) were calculated for each index. The highest coefficient value (b) for affect the overall (b) values in different indices indicated that age at sexual maturity and egg weight 40 week are the important economic traits which affects the index value followed by egg number 40 week and body weight at 20 week of age. 20% superior sires i.e. 13 sires out of 64 were selected and in listed. The sire values were arranged in decending order and merat number were allotted to each sire in all the different indices. lt is interesting to point out that out of 20% superior sires the sire no 5, 14, 23, 15 and 29 are the sires which are present in each sire index at various merit number varied from merit no 1 to 13. The comparison of ranking of sires based on various traits combination in all the five sire indices were compiled and compared. Based on the rank'ng, it is observed that the superiority of the sires in descending fashion found to be as 29, 23, 14, 5, 15, 17,1,24,4,25, 12,20 and 16, l20o/o selection is adopted for selecting superior sires. The first five superior sires based on multiindex multitrait comparison are sire no 29, 23, 14, 5 and 15 whtch are lhe same sires which got the position in 20% selected sires in every sire index. It is therefore concluded that any of the sire index may serve the purpose of selection of 20% superior sire as lhe final five top ranking sires got position in each sire index estimated for dlfferent characteristics simultaneously. |
