Description |
Investigation on "Estimation of avoidable yield losses due to major pests of sorghum" was carried out at Sorghum Research Station, MKV, Parbhani during kharif 2010-11. The experiment was conducted under paired row plot technique design with two treatment i.e. protected and unprotected plots and fourteen replications using PVK-809 variety. Observations were recorded on shoot fly, stem borer and shoot bug. Grain and fodder yield was recorded at harvest. The ovipositional behavior of shoot fly indicated that flies were attracted more towards plots of seed treated with thiamethoxam 70 WS @ 3 g/kg of seed. All seed treated plots recorded significantly low percentage of shoot fly dead hearts. Seed treatment with thiamethoxam 70 WS @ 3 g/kg of seed plus endosulfan 0.07 per cent at 35 DAE was significantly reduced stem borer dead hearts and leaf injury. Also significantly lowest percentage of shoot bug damaged plants was recorded at 45th and 60th DAE. There was no infestation of aphid and earhead bug. The per cent avoidable grain yield losses due to shoot fly, stem borer and shoot bug in sorghum were 32.60 per cent and 23.03 per cent in fodder losses. |
