Description --
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of PGF 2_, GnRH and
combination of GnRH and PGF 2_ on pregnancy rates in repeat breeder crossbred cows. Forty crossbred repeat breeding cows and ten normal cyclic cows were selected for the study. The animals were randomly divided into four equal groups of ten each. Group I, cows were treated with 500μg of PGF 2_ (Clostenol™) I/M and timed inseminationperformed at 72 and 96 hours. Group II cows were treated with GnRH (Receptal®) 20μg I/M immediately artificial insemination. Group III cows were treated with 500μg of PGF 2_ (Clostenol™) I/M and insemination at observed along with 20μg of GnRH (Receptal®) immediately after insemination. Group IV cows did not receive anytreatment twice artificial insemination was performed with good quality semen and served as control. Blood samples were collected from all the cows before insemination.

In present study, 90, 100, and 90% of the cows treated only with PGF 2_, GnRH alone and combination of PGF 2_ and GnRH respectively ovulated, while in untreated control repeat breeding cows, ovulatory response was observed as 80%. The first service pregnancy rates in Groups I to IV were 50, 60, 70, and 30%, respectively. These results indicate that the pregnancy rate in crossbred cows could be improved by hormonal therapy. Blood serum biochemical profiles showed that, cholesterol, total protein and albumin concentrations were significantly lower in repeat breeding cows; while theserum globulin did not differ between repeat breeding and normal fertile cows. However, serum urea concentration was significantly higher in repeat breeding cows compare to
normal cyclic cows.
