newlineAbstract
newlineThe designing of semiconductor nano-heterojunctions has been proved to be a successful
newlinestrategy for developing more efficient photocatalysts than single semiconductor. This lab
newlinescale work explains the strategy to design such composites. Firstly biochar from brewery
newlinewaste has been prepared and with addition of nano Fe/Co magnetic biochar was produced.
newlineBi2O2CO3/BiPO4 (BB) binary hetero-junction and magnetic Bi2O2CO3/BiPO4/Biochar
newline(BCBB) ternary nano-hetro-junction were synthesized by hydrothermal method. Biochar
newlinesample was produced from brewery distillery waste. These nanocomposites were
newlinecharacterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Energy
newlinedispersive X-ray (EDX), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) etc. The photocatalytic
newlineactivity of as synthesized BB heterojunction towards the degradation of Bisphenol A (BPA, a
newlinewidely used preservative with estrogenic activity) and reduction of Nitrophenol was tested
newlineunder the sunlight. The nano-heterojunctions exhibit excellent photo-degradation properties
newlineas well as oil regeneration capacity. In addition the ternary heterojunction has been able to
newlinecatalyze reduction of nitrophenol to aminophenol with high efficiency.
