Description The research was aimed to develop a Nanopatterened Antimicrobial Superhydrophobic Polymeric Coating on various substrates using dip and dry method for Medical Application. In this method 2.4gram polymethylmethacrylate was dissolved in 100ml solvent and stirred on a magnetic stirrer. The films were prepared on the glass slides which were dipped in the polymer solution for 30sec and then dried at room temperature for a period of 24 hours. Later on dried films were treated with the solvent by dipping the slides into a beaker containing 80ml of solvent. A different number of coatings like 1 2 3 and 4 were prepared on the surface of glass, plastic, aluminium and tile substrate in order to create modifying structures. PMMA films were modified using nonionizing microwave method in microwave oven and so modified films were subjected for evaluating the contact angle surface topology and antibacterial adhesion property. The results were compared and found that SF1 and GF52 films showed improved contact angle improvement in surface topology and antibacterial adhesion property. The film GF75 prepared on a glass substrate was selected as the best film in comparison to the other prepared 398 films as it showed maximum contact angle 123.76 degree which was significantly higher than the contact angle of standard PMMA film. The increased contact angle leads to a reduction in wettability of the solid film surface. SEM analysis revealed nano and submicro structures with honeycomb like structures having a 100 to 200nanometer diameter significant antibacterial adhesion and no growth. The XRD study revealed the amorphous nature of modified film as there was the absence of peak between 10 to 100 degree theta. FTIR study revealed the presence of a peak at 2900 per cm and 1618 per cm. This clearly confirms that there is no change in the functional groups of the PMMA film. The conclusion was drawn that GF75 can be used for coating in operation theatre in order to avoid cross contamination and to maintain the hygiene and sterility.
