Description Captives - also recognized as Global In-house Centers (GIC) - are playing a significant
newlinerole in world-class service market and have a made commendable contribution in the growth of
newlineIT/ITES sector in India. GICs existence was recognized in 1980s and 90s by global organizations
newlinewhich have businesses in several countries of the world. The major reason to set up GICs in the
newlinedeveloping nations and other countries were availability of skilled labour in their labour market,
newlinelow wages of employees in a comparison to their own country and availability of resources at
newlinelow prices. Economy and to promote the branding were of imperative concerns. India found
newlineahead in GIC domain to set up locations followed by Philippines, Eastern Europe and Latin
newlineAmerica who are coming up very fast in competition for the past few years for the location setup
newlinein their country. Global In-House Centers as captives in India have convincing story to narrate to
newlinethe world because of largest networking system in the world. There is shift in trend in
newlineinvestment on labour skills and labour cost towards the quality and value. Parent companies have
newlinehuge demands of expectations from India not only to earns profit but to deliberate that GICs will
newlinealso support their and Indian local business market too. comments Rajan Verma, Vice President,
newlineThomson Reuters (http://old.nasscom.in).
