Description The major aim of the study was to develop a learning package in biology by integrating the process and skills of metacognition at the secondary school level and to find out the effect of this package in enhancing metacognitive skills and achievement in Biology of the secondary school students. The other two dependent variables were Science Interest and Attitude towards Science. In this study, the investigator has adopted the pre-test Post-test Non equivalent group design. In order to measure the metacognitive awareness among secondary school students, the investigator prepared and standardized a metacognitive skills assessment scale (MAS). In addition to MAS and achievement test the other tools used were lesson transcripts based on activity oriented method, science interest inventory and scale of attitude towards science. The pretest, post test and gain-scores were analyzed using suitable statistical techniques. The statistical analysis of collected data confirms the superiority of learning package based on metacognitive process in enhancing metacognitive skills and achievement in biology of secondary school students. In addition to that learning package based on metacognitive process is more effective than activity oriented method of instruction in enhancing science interest and attitude of secondary school students towards science.
