| Abstract | Gill net is a prominent fishing gear extensively used in the artisanal sector in Gujarat. Details of gill nets and the changes that have taken place in the gill nets of Gujarat are described. Efficiency of gill nets has increased manifold with the introduction of synthetic fibres. Polyamide monofilament is widely used in drift gill nets and polyethylene twisted monofilament has replaced nylon multifilament. The size of nets, number of units and depth of operation have increased with the advent of motorisation. |
