Abstract | The bioaccumulation of copper, chromium and arsenic leached from the rubber wood treated with a waterborne wood preservative CCA was studied in Oreochromis mossambicus. Rubber wood panels dip treated and pressure treated with CCA and commercially available CCA treated marine plywood panels, when exposed to water in the aquaria tanks showed leaching of CCA components into the water. The results of the study indicated that although in minute quantities, copper, chromium and arsenic leaching from the panels gets accumulated in the tissues of fish reared in the aquaria. The bioaccumulation of copper, chromium and arsenic was highest in liver tissues. In muscles, the least accumulation of the metal was observed indicating relatively lower risk to human concerned with the fishes in consumption point of view. |
