Abstract | The rapid rise and fall of specific IgM during a virus infection can be exploited to speed up serodiagnosis and to provide presumptive evidence of a current virus infection by the examination of a single serum sample. When the detection of IgM antibody in a single serum sample is the goal, then tests of greater specificity are advantageous. The rapidity and relatively high specificity of ELISA makes it a test of choice for detecting virus specific IgM antibody. |
