COIR in the form of twines and ropes is a fishing gea r material widely used, particularl y in South [ndia, for the fabrication of essential components of several types of fishing implem ents. Very little information is on record elucidati ng the essential dyna mic characteri tics of this important gear material. Miyamoto a nd Shariff (1958) in a n earlier communication have presented certai n details on t he cha racteristics a nd rotti ng qualities of one va riety of c:oir twine. The present stud y on the characteristics of different grades of coir twines was underta ken at the insta nce of Dr. Miyamoto with a view to eval ua te the qualities of the different grades of coir twines•and to facilitate determination of thei r utility as a fishing gear material. |
