| Abstract | Fishing gears are ballasted with different kinds of•sinkers to serve different purposes. Sinkers and floats are attached to gill nets to keep the meshes to the desired shape for effective fishing. Materials such as clay,cement, granite stones,iron and lead are commonly used to make sinkers.The most important criteriais the high specific gravity of the materialused for the sinker to enable fast sinking. Gran ite stcnes, cement etc. are used in indigenous fishing gear both in the inland and marine sectors. |
