Abstract |
As in many other fields, electronics has made revolutionary impact in development of instruments for navigation and fishing operation. In olden days, navigation was conducted by noting the position of celestial bodies, such as, sun, moon and the stars. The art of navigation started with the use of a few instruments, such as, extent and compass followed by manual calculation has now developed to such an extent that a modern navigator has at his disposal a vast array of instruments and computers which automatically present his position and other navigational information. Similarly the early fishing methods mainly depended on the manual traditional experience bequaethed to one generation by its ester one. Now modern fishing vessels are equipped with sophisticated electronic instruments for detection of fish and monitoring the performance of fishing gears. The author makes a brief review of the present technological developments in the field of navigation and fishing with respect to instrumentation. |
