Title Detection of clostridium botulinum toxin by mouse bioassay

Names Lalitha, K.V.
Date Issued 2001 (iso8601)
Abstract Botulinal toxin is identified in samples or cultures by injecting specimen fluids (food extracts/culture supernatant) into mice, observing for signs of botulism and subsequent death, and noting the neutralizing effect of one specific antitoxin and of the polyvalent antitoxin. Samples were examined for the presence of C. botulinum using a procedure followed by the US food and drug administration(1995). Food extracts and enrichment cultures are treated in the same way for toxin assay.
