Abstract The average role performance scores of fisherwomen were found to be 53.08% and 48.03% for two samples studied from Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The reults have shown that the role performance differs significantly from village to village in both samples. The major roles performed by fisherwomen and the average time spent on these roles were analysed. While pre-processing and fresh fish marketing were major roles performed by fisherwomen in Kerala, fresh fish marketing and fishing net fabrication were major roles for fisherwomen from Tamil Nadu villages. In the regression analysis for the two samples, the R super(2) values were found to be 0.3765 and 0.8022 with significant F values.
