Abstract Self-help groups (SHGs) are essentially formed as a means to meet
social or economic needs of members coming together to form the groups.
Though the concept has been around for several decades, it has been
getting an impetus due to various governmental and non governmental
interventions in promoting such groups to achieve larger developmental
goals.
