Description |
Coffee pulp can be used as manure but when fresh it is very acid, slow to decompose and may spread disease. Research carried out in Brazil has shown that coffee pulp can quickly be transformed into rich organic compost by introducing a fungus, Trichoderma viridi, and encouraging aeration. After one month of decomposition, the pH of the compost is nearly neutral and the carbon/nitrogen balance reduced from 30 to 11. The compost can be re-used as inoculum.
