The International Livestock Centre for Africa (ILCA) has set up a network which groups together all the specialist researchers in the field of small ruminants and the Camelidae family. Its objectives are: to promote research for improving productivity to support regional training for this research to organise and lead meetings between researchers to produce a manual for research teams working on traditional production methods to analyse data on production, growth, disease and mortality in small ruminants and camels in sub-Saharan Africa, in order to improve the nutrition and management conditions of herds. The first issue of the network information sheet was distributed to 240 subscribers in 58 countries in Africa and elsewhere. For further information, contact: R.T.
