Description |
Mobility has now been incorpora ted into the UPIL machine developed by IRAT/CIRAD for on-site production of a leguminous inoculant. This self-contained unit is designed to produce the rhizobium bacteria needed to enable leguminous plants to fix nitrogen. It consists of a stainless steel fermentation chamber where the culture is mixed, aerated and maintained at a constant temperature. Installed in a wheeled apparatus, UPIL brings the quality control of large industrial production out into the field, making it ideal for the needs of regional and even national development programmes. This sturdy and reliable equipment has been developed with the assistance of the FAO and 44 units have already been distributed in 17 countries. For more details, contact: H.
