Description Small farmers in the tropics who fertilize their irrigated rice fields with urea, generally do so by hand broadcasting with the result that much of the nitrogen is lost in the air. By injecting the urea about 10 cm into the soil, such losses are minimized and production is thus increased. In order to promote this technique, the Wageningen Agricultural University has recently developed a small, practical and cheap tool: the urea injector.
