Established by several Belgium NGOs involved in development work, the Collective for the Exchange of Appropriate Technology (COTA) tries to promote simple technologiesthat require little capital investment and make use of local skills and resources. It acts as both a research centre that provides technical support for field work and a documentation centre that collects, edits and diffuses information. It boasts a library of more than 4,000 titles that is open to the public and responds to questions posed by development workers and others interested or involved in Third World development.
