The International Society of Soil Science is to hold a workshop on denitrification in soils, the rhizasphere and aquifers, in Giessen, Germany, from March 17 to 19,1989. This IS to be an international meeting for experts in this field. At present dentrihcation is playing an important role in modern ecology. Examples are the destruction of the ozone layer by N20, exploitation of land resulting in N-losses, drainage and water purification. The workshop will bring together the different sectors (scientiste, representatives of governments, ministries, waterworks, and students) in order to report on current research and knowledge, and to identify any research needs It is expected that this workshop will bring together up to 500 participants, mainly from EEC countries.
