Description |
Rodale International is an American NGO whose aim is to help local communities to formulate, try out, and put into practice appropriate sustainable technologies and to discover their own strerengths and resources, so that ultimately they can take control of their own development. To achieve this aim Rodale International has created an exchange network for information on sustainable agriculture, which operates under three main headings: research, communications and training. Rodale's activities are of two types, linked by the creation of an effective information exchange network. Firstly, Rodale collaborates with other research and development agencies and NGOs both to formulate a methodology for those living in rural communities and to test out sustainable technologies in 'live' conditions. The second thrust of Rodale International's activity is the creation and operation of an information collection and distribution system. The principal organ of this exchange is the sustainable agriculture bulletin 'International Ag-Sieve', which reports on experiments and technical methodological successes in the field carried out by the scientists and trainers both in the States and elsewhere. Rodale International has a base in Senegal for its West African activities and one in Kenya for its East African programmes.
