Description |
CTA and UNESCO have copublished a thought-provoking book by Albert Sasson, currently Director of Programme Planning within the Office for Planning, Budgeting and Evaluation at UNESCO. Feeding tomorrow's world addresses the questions which have become urgent and paramount as the world approaches the year 2000. Will the benefits of the green revolution and progress in food production meet the needs of the world population at the end of the century? Will the biotechnological revolution offer a solution to world food problems? How can aid to agricultural development and self-sufficiency be attained, particularly in the Third World countries? Dr Sasson takes a multidisciplinary approach to human nutrition and food production and, in this way, attempts to answer these and other pressing questions. The three principal subject areas are: human nutrition; production and trade in agricultural foodstuffs; achievements and potential international cooperation and prospects. It is not, therefore, a book for the narrow specialist, but instead provides a scientific, economic, socio-economic and environmental overview of nutrition throughout the world.
