Description |
In November 1989 a workshop held in Nigeria on rural poultry production determined a need to consolidate existing know-ledge and coordinate development. From this sprang the African Network on Rural Poultry Development, which aims to serve as a forum for the exchange of ideas and resources among those concerned with poultry production in Africa. It will allow methods and evaluation of results to be shared and compared, and information to be disseminated among members to assist the adaptation of suitable technologies. The network also intends to inaugurate a database on rural poultry production. The network will operate at regional and national levels, and each member country will set up its own national working group from all those individuals and organisations concerned with rural poultry development in their country. One of the means of communication among members is a twice-yearly newsletter published in English and French. CTA has contributed to the exchange of information by holding a seminar in Thessaloniki, Greece, in October 1990 on 'Smallholder rural poultry production in Africa'.
