The Technology Development and Advisory Unit (TDAU) of the University of Zambia will become autonomous within the university structure from June 1994. This will reflect a progressive 'Zambianization' of the Unit staff. TDAU already publishes its own newsletter, of which the second issue appeared in June 1990 (the first was published in 1988). The aim of both unit and newsletter is to explore the appropriate technologies that are the small-scale sustainable alternatives to imported equipment for development. This technology should meet the needs of communities especially at grassroots level. TDAU is concerned with research and development and the dissemination of the relevant processes and information. The newsletter presents some of the unit's past and on going activities, projects and products in the field of appropriate technology.
