Description The Groupement International des Associations Nationales de Fabricants de Produits Agrochimiques (GIFAP) was founded in 1960 and its associates now comprise more than 90% of the world's agrochemical producers. Its principal aim is to advise small farmers about the safe and efficient use of phytosanitary products. This is important throughout the world, but is particularly so in ACP countries where the need for increased agricultural production must not increase the health risks to the human population. GIFAP therefore publishes general titles such as The international code of conduct governing the distribution and use of pesticides (FAO), many user's guides, and a series of Guidelines in English and French; for example,

Guidelines on the safe handling of phytosanitary products during their manufacture, packing, storage and transport, and Guidelines on emergency procedure in case of chemical poisoning by a phytosanitary product.

GIFAP has also published a handbook for those who train extension personnel. A training manual and video have been produced for distributors in order to improve the quality of their advisory service to farmers. A quarterly newsletter is published in both English and French which updates readers on GIFAP activities and provides international news on pesticides. It is available free from GIFAP headquarters.
