Description |
Fresh, clean water is a vital commodity in rural communities. Improved sanitation and water quality will invariably improve the standard of life and many development projects can be seen to be successful just by improving the availability of clean water. Water supplies for rural communities is a study that draws on the experiences of VSO volunteers who have worked in areas such as Nepal, Kenya, Malawi and the Pacific. It shows a clear link between poverty and lack of sufficient clean water and thus how community development in a water project can Improve self-reliance. This book highlights the areas of practices which are likely to improve water supply through the use of community participation and appropriate technology. In particular, the importance of health education and good sanitation are emphasized.
