Title Cooperative granaries

Creator Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation

Description The use of granaries at village level has soared in recent decades as a means of obtaining better prices and mitigating shortages. Since the 1970s they have often been organised as a form of cooperative, in which grains are stored and managed until a later date. Granaries is an easy-to-read practical manual, explaining why and how to establish such a storage cooperative and how to manage it and keep the books and the working atmosphere as they should be. It also discusses a possible transformation of a well-run granary into a cooperative village bank. The manual concludes with various examples of cases in Zambia and Mali.
