Description |
To rehabilitate Mozambiques biggest sugar plant at Marromeu, near Beira, the owners sugar company Companhia de Sena SARL and the Government of Mozambique received a US$ 12 million loan from the Development Bank of South Africa in September 2001. The funds will also be used to improve infrastructure and establish a new sugar cane area of more than 10,000 hectares. Bank officials are enthusiastic about Mozambique s comparative advantage as a low cost producer. By 2003, the mill should be able to produce 100,000 t of sugar compared to the current 30,000 t.
