Description |
The Interprofessional Association of Agriculture, Agro-industry and Communication (known as Agrocom) was set up as a registered public utility on 24 November 1994 in Douala (Cameroon). Its goal is to organise the non-traditional sectors involved in such products as bananas, plantain, pineapples, onions, beans, potatoes, cassava and cut flowers. It is currently working on a communication programme and hopes to give a boost to the country s agricultural economy through a series of meetings of elected representatives, private business men and women, members of the liberal professions, leading civil servants and traditional Cameroonian chiefs in major agro-ecological areas. The aim of the campaign is to inform the elite of the issues involving horticulture, the opportunities the sector has to offer and the role they can play in it. As part of the campaign, three seminars were held during 1999 in Yaoundé, Bandjoun and Bamenda.
