Two post-graduate courses on post-harvest topics can be followed through computer mediated distance learning. Run by the Food Security team of the UK s Natural Resources Institute, the courses cover grain storage management (PGDip/MSc.) and post harvest horticulture (PGDip/MSc.). Among course components are, for GSM, a renewed emphasis on detection, monitoring and control of rodents and, for PHH, on the technology and protocols required for exporting tropical commodities to developed markets. The online GSM course will start on 7 February 2000, and the PHH course shortly afterwards. Students can apply to start courses at short notice, and access them preferably twice a week from their home country via an on-line campus.
