The same red ants have been reported in Gabon, where they have been decimating some local invertebrates and threatening the biological balance in some regions, notably the south-western coast, to the south-east of the capital Libreville. But they were invited to come. They were first introduced in cacao plantations to control some hemipteran mirid insects, and they have been put to work by local people to clean out their maize plantations.
