Faced with the challenge of the food security situation in Africa, Dr Uche Amalu, author of Agricultural research and extension delivery systems in sub-Saharan Africa, has provided a useful set of tools to scrutinise existing agricultural research and extension strategies, and to design and shape them. The book describes various concepts in research and extension, such as farming systems research, rapid appraisal and indigenous knowledge systems, in an easy-to-read style, with lively references (including several to Spore articles). The book is well-illustrated with examples, and although many are derived from Nigerian experiences, the book is useful for other African audiences. It can serve as a basic text for agricultural students at universities and subject-matter specialists in ministries and related agencies.
