Description |
Cartoons and comics can be used as a playful and dynamic method to address the most serious problems people in developing countries encounter. Whether the message concerns gender, agriculture, crops, or money, drawings can be a good way to carry a message. Nevertheless, even if the drawing is brilliant, it can fail to attract the attention of the reader if the story is not interesting. The success of a comic depends on unwritten rules. Comics with an attitude, published by the Finnish Ministry for Development Cooperation, gives some insights in the magic of cartoons and comics. The use of humour, much appreciated by any reader, is one example. The amount of text and the number of characters should be kept to a minimum in each drawing. Keep it simple, and let the drawing do the telling. Comics with an attitude includes six stories from Tanzania, Mozambique, Senegal, and India as well as some samples from campaign comics. It concludes with a step-by-step guide on how to draw and write a good story. Comics with an Attitude A Guide to the Use of Comics in Development Information. L Packalén and F Odoi.
