Recent reports in Spore of CTA activities have covered seminars held in Spain and other Spanish-speaking countries. They include the Cordoba water seminar, Santo Domingo organic banana meeting (see In Brief), and two seminars in Madrid on marketing of perishable products (see Spore 83). Spore 86 will carry a report on the meeting on urban agriculture held recently in Havana, Cuba. In recognition of the growing involvement of Spain through its Ministry for Agriculture and Fisheries (MAPA) and the agricultural community of Spanish and Portuguese speaking ACP countries in activities supported by CTA, the government of Spain bestowed the Order of Merit in Agriculture on the Director of CTA, Dr RD Cooke. He received the award from the Ambassador of Spain to The Netherlands, Don José Pons, at a special ceremony in The Hague.
