Description An in-depth analysis is made of objectives and constraints in cassava development in Latin America. Integrated cassava development projects aim at promoting the organizational intervention by which small-scale cassava farmers are linked to high growth markets. The 6 main activities involved in the development of a methodology for these projects are briefly described. These are development of a macro planning frame, assessment of institutional capacity, project financing, phasing of activities in project execution, support activities, and replication and monitoring. The lst Colombian cassava development project is discussed regarding socioeconomic characteristics of the region, the screening process for site selection, advances to date, and potential economic benefits. CIAT`s participation in integrated cassava projects is analyzed. (CIAT)
