Description |
Rural women make up over a quarter of the total world population. In developing countries, rural women represent approximately 43 per cent of the agricultural labour force, and roughly forty percent of the world’s population lives in drylands, making dryland rural women farmers dynamic and central for the world’s wellbeing. They produce, process, and prepare much of the food available. Our October 15 campaign is focused on rural women farmers, strong women achieving success for themselves and their communities. Their work on the field is important to us all because it addresses concerns ranging from food security and poverty to climate change. The contribution of rural women, including indigenous women, in enhancing agricultural and rural development, improving food security and food production, and eradicating rural poverty is immense. |
