Description In Kenya the best performing sorghum lines IS 16545, Khalid, IS 25395, ASARECA 24-4-1 and ASARECA 15-2-1 had grain yields ranging from 2.593 to 3.33 t ha-1 and 76 to 81 days to flowering whereas in Tanzania, the best performing lines were Gadam Hamam, IESV 91049 DL, ASARECA 15-4-1, ASARECA 24-3-1 and ASARECA 19-1-1 DL with grain yields of 3.778 to 4.296 t ha-1 (Table 4). In Uganda short maturity lines IESV91041DL, ASERECA 19-1-1, ASERECA 24-3-1, CR:35:5 and Mahube and medium maturity lines IESV23007DL Gadam Hamam X IS8193 IESV92172 DL, IESV92043 DL and SV4 were selected for on-farm evaluation. In Malawi the materials performed better at Chitala than at Chitedze. Lines IESV 23005 DL, IESV 23008 DL, IESV 23010 DL, IESV 23004 DL and IESV 23016 DL (yields 3.649 – 4.500 t/ha across locations) were the best performing (Fig. 3). In Zimbabwe seven lines IESV 23006 DL, Gadam Hamam, ICSR 161, IESV 91070 DL, IESV 23005 DL, Wahi and ICSV 111 IN (yields 2.325- 4.273 t/ha) were selected for on farm testing. Line Gadam hamam which is already released in Kenya and Sudan has shown stability with good performance in Tanzania and Zimbabwe. Out of the 25 lines in the preliminary striga trial, 6 lines had low striga counts but the trial will be repeated in 2017 for final selection.
