Description |
For inheritance studies, a set of nine pearl millet genotypes; seven resistant (ICMB 93333, ICMB 97222, ICMB 02444, ICMR 06444, ICMR 06222, ICMR 11003 and IP 21187) and two susceptible (ICMB 95444 and ICMB 89111) were selected to make crosses and develop F1, F2, and backcross populations. Fourteen susceptible (S) × resistant (R), one S x S and twenty one R × R crosses were generated. The parents and derived progenies in different generations were screened against Pg 45 and Pg 53 isolates of blast pathogen. Fifteen genotypes (10 resistant and 5 susceptible) of pearl millet were selected for biochemical characterization of blast resistance at plumule stage and 4, 8, 12, 24, 48 and 72 hours post inoculation (hpi) with M. grisea. Total phenol content, phenylalanine ammonia lyase, peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase activity was compared in the resistant and susceptible genotypes.
